There has been a need identified in rural areas by the local communities to provide Community Learning Centres. Cost $20,000

The Centres are large 2 roomed brick and tile spaces, with an inside and outside toilets for the staff and children. The inside spaces are tiled and one room acts as the District Library whilst the other is for all the activities that are carried out at the Centres.

They are used every day for classes and early learning activities for pre-school children and also antenatal programmes run by visiting nurses during the day. Then after-school there are a wide-range of programmes including cooking, weaving, and English classes. These Centres are staffed by library staff who supervise the library, run the after school activities and provide out-reach to a large number of primary schools in the District paid for by CLI. The Centres are built in the largest town in each District near the high school (which is the only high school in the district) and students are encouraged to volunteer as mentors to the younger children.

This is the Community Learning Centre in Non Kiew, this is the exact replica of the planned Community Learning Centre that we are seeking to build in Pax Xang. They are to be built by our partner in Laos, CLI who fund the staff and build the centres using local labour and with a 15% buy in from the local community

Conservatively these centre provide programmes that service 2000 high school students, 10,000 primary school students through theoutreach programmes and 3000 adults in the adult classes. They have a greater impact than a single school building in either a primary or secondary school.

We are ready to build a Community Learning Centre in Pax Xang in far Northern part of Laos, we have raised $18,500 (thank you to Mill Point Rotary Club and Integrated Yang Style Tai Chi Association of Australia Inc) so far and are hoping to have the remaining funds by November 2012.

PLEASE PLEASE consider sponsoring this worthwhile project and remember ALL the donations are tax deductible and ALL donations will reach the project.
